Why paid/unpaid is not a financial model
One athlete can have a monthly training fee, registration charge, kit fee, camp charge or private lesson. A family may pay part in cash and the rest by bank transfer. A single boolean field cannot preserve that history.
A robust system stores charges and payments separately, then allocates payments to one or more charges. That makes partial payments, corrections and running balances possible without rewriting history.

Recurring fees should be generated from active enrollments instead of being typed every month. Pauses, discounts and future plan changes should affect future charges without silently rewriting old periods.

Use overdue aging, not one giant debt list
A balance that is three days late should not have the same follow-up priority as one that is seventy days late. Aging buckets such as 1–7, 8–30, 31–60 and 61+ days help the office decide when to send a reminder, call a parent or escalate the account.
The report should also show the oldest due date, last collection and last reminder so staff can act without opening several screens.
Month-end reporting must separate accrual from cash
If the academy generated $20,000 in fees but collected $16,000, both numbers matter. Cash alone hides receivables; charges alone overstate money in the bank.
A useful month-end view combines net charges, collected amount, outstanding amount, overdue amount and collection rate, with filters for branch, sport or group.
